You should think about using a bamboo fountain to energize your garden. Bamboo fountains, the original creation of the Japanese, were made specifically as a way to keep deer away from rice paddies. The name “deer chasers” was coined and is still used as another name for the bamboo fountain.

The bamboo fountain found a new use with the monks who used them to track their meditation times. With more people conscious of the environment, the bamboo fountain is garnering more notice since it is made of environmentally friendly material. Still, the bamboo fountain possesses a simple beauty and charm that attracts people. Another perk is that the bamboo fountain is flexible enough to use indoors as well as outside.

Constructing a bamboo fountain is easy and takes just a smaller number of parts to build. You will need bamboo, tubing, a pump, a base, rod, screws, and container. For outdoor bamboo fountains, you should use higher quality bamboo that can withstand various weather conditions. People who opt to use the bamboo fountain indoors often enhance the strength and appearance of the bamboo by applying polish. Other tools needed to build your own bamboo fountain include a screwdriver, wood saw, and a drill machine.

The first step after you have all the parts for your bamboo fountain is to cut the bamboo sticks to required lengths. Three large bamboo sticks are needed. One stick will be used to hold the nozzle while the others will hold the moving part of the bamboo fountain. The part that moves is responsible for collecting water and emptying it once the weight of the collected water rises. Moving on, you will have to drill a hole through the center of the two other bamboo sticks as well as the moving part. You need holes in your bamboo sticks pieces because a rod will be inserted in them to make the fountain operate with pivot action.

The pipe will be ran through the middle of the bamboo stick to the pump. The pipe will be capped by a bamboo nozzle. All pieces should be fitted to a base. You know that the bamboo fountain is working fine when the water coming from the nozzle continues running to the moving part of the fountain.

If you’ve read this and realize you don’t want to create a bamboo fountain from the ground up, you can always buy an easy-to-install kit at a home and garden center.

It is good to know how to do maintenance on your bamboo fountain, should you build one. Any maintenance will concentrate in two places. You will focus on the water pump care. The pump must be kept underwater when in operation. Don’t forget to clean the pump regularly. You must replace the water in your fountain on a regular schedule. With fountains that run all the time, this cycle will be less frequent, but water should be to avoid foul smell due to stagnation.
